More than 30 teams took part in the Kauai Chapter Golf Tournament at the beautiful, yet challenging Kauai Lagoons Golf Club.  This course designed by Jack Nicklaus was voted one of the best new resort courses by Golf Digest.

The event served to announce the 2013 Visitor Industry Charity Walk for Kauai.  The goal for this year’s charity was set at $222,000 dollars. David Sosner, general manger of the Aqua Kauai Beach Resort, will hold the chair position for this year’s walk.  The fundraiser walk is set for May 17th.

Along with aiding the launch of the walk, Sandi Kato-Klutke, an HLTA member, bestowed $2,000 to the American Culinary Federation. Among the unique tournament matches, were Men’s Long Drive, won by Leroy Singerland.  Leanne Kamekona, chef at the St. Regis Princeville Resort, won the Women’s Long Drive.

The Koloa Landing® Resort & Spa team of Matthew Kleefisch, Morida Daroda, Lance Shenk, and Tim Mira placed 9th to best the Hawaii Lodging and Tourism Association.  The five spot was secured by Erwin Ramos for the KP Mauka No. 5, as well as the KP Moana No. 5. Kirk Pierpoint secured the KP Mauka No. 8, and Walter Steingart secured the KP Moana No. 8.

First place in the tourney went to the Kauai Lagoons team of Kirk Pierpoint, Eddie Iloreta, Chris Fujikado, and Celeste You. Second Place went to The Westin Princeville Ocean Resort Villa team of Marc Bennor, Cassidy Lopez, Jason Sessions, and Mitch Rozwart.  At their heels were 3rd place finishers, the Pernod-Ricard team of Harry Yoshino, Marinel Brual, John Lee, and Justin Yoshino.

All in all, it was a great day for golf, and the sportsmanship for this great cause outshined the beautiful Kauai sunset!
