It’s almost time for the island’s signature festival and this year it’s a milestone celebration. The 30th annual Koloa Plantation Days runs from July 17-26 and there’s something for everyone each day of the event.

Every July, the festival brings visitors and residents together to learn about Koloa’s multicultural history, experience a variety of local foods and activities, all while exploring the area’s beautiful scenery, golf courses, and neighborhood venues.

The sunny south shore of Poipu Beach and nearby Koloa Town play host to this spectacular family-friendly, community celebration. The many ethnic groups that came to Hawaii to work on sugar plantations, and the Hawaiians who welcomed them, are celebrated through music, dance, costumes, and food throughout the Koloa Plantation Days festival.

Koloa Plantation Days Activities

The pre-festival fun begins on July 10 with a movie in the park. The 10day celebration includes: rodeo roping, a trail walk, tennis tournament, live music, mini golf tournament, sand dune hike, craft fair, Polynesian Revue and fire dancing, coastal hike, traditional Hawaiian games, culinary demonstrations, putting contests, history lessons, Family Fun Race and Walk, parade, a ukulele competition, and even more.

Keiki (children) will also have a blast partaking in games like spear throwing, a 50yard dash, coconut toss, disk throwing, and more. Most of the festival is free, though some activities cost a few dollars.

This year’s theme is “The Legacy Lives On” and Koloa Plantation Days committee members invite everyone who has attended a Koloa Plantation Days festival – and will attend this year’s festival – to participate in a social media photo contest for a chance to win prizes.

You can post your photos of festivals past to Facebook using #kpdsharethememories and #koloaplantationdays from now until July 16.

During this year’s festival, you can post photos to Instagram using #mykoloaplantationdays.

The committee will choose the winning photos, based on what they think best represents the legacy of the last 30 years in several categories: Sports & Activities, Keiki & Family Fun, Local Foods & Shopping, Island Culture & History, Celebration & Live Music, and Parade Fun.

Our Koloa Landing® staff would be happy to share our experiences with you about the festival and help you decide which activities would best fit your Kauaiian vacation schedule. Give us a call at 808-240-6600 to learn more.
